  • Life recovery from flask

Life (also named Health or Hit Points) is the main health source of a character or monster and it decreases when receiving damage; when it reaches 0% the entity dies. For characters it means that it must be resurrected in town or checkpoint, for monsters it means complete death and it can be only revived by other monsters, or by players as a minion. Players can recover life by using life flask, gaining life regeneration from passive skills and equipment, or leeching life from enemies. Life is also fully restored upon entering a town or hideout.

Mechanics

Base stats

Life starts at 28 for level 1 characters, before factoring additional life from levels or Strength.

Characters gain +12 maximum Life per Player Level, +2 maximum Life per Strength.

Losing Life points

There are a few different ways to lose life points. Certain mechanics applies or not depending on how life is lost.

  • Life Loss Life Loss is not damage, and can't be mitigated or absorbed by Energy Shield. Life Loss is immediate and can kill you.
  • Sacrificed life Sacrificed Life is Life loss (not damage), but you cannot sacrifice your own Life if it would reduce it below 1 Life. You can sacrifice other's life below 1, for example with sacrificing Minion Life.
  • Taking Damage Damage is the process by which a player or monster's life or energy shield is reduced. Damage is always one of 5 damage types: physical, chaos, fire, cold or lightning. Damage can be mitigated or prevented by various defences. Damage can be: Damage over time (DoT) refers to damage which happens gradually over a duration instead of all at once. Hit damage is dealt instantaneously. Any damage that isn't damage over time is Hit damage.

Life Recovery

There are multiple ways to recover life, modifiers to Life recovery applies to all of them:

  • Life recovery from flask
  • Life regeneration
  • Life gained on an event (for example: on hit, on kill)
  • Life leeched
  • Life recouped
  • Life recharge

Low life

Players or Monsters are considered to be on low life if they are at 35% of maximum life or lower.

Full life

The player is considered to be on full life if they are at 100% of maximum life or higher through overflow, unless life is being reserved. Life recovery effects are typically removed when the player reaches or is at full life.
