Enchantment & Corruption Crafting Guide

Enchantments

Modifiers are properties that can be added and randomized on items in Path of Exile 2, giving them stats, skills, and functionality. These properties provide bonuses or effects and are divided into several types:

Magic items can have up to 2 modifiers (1 prefix and 1 suffix), while rare items can have up to 6 modifiers (3 prefixes and 3 suffixes). The specific combination of affixes determines the overall power and utility of the item, making modifiers central to itemization and character progression.

Local and global modifiers

Local modifiers are modifiers that directly affect the item they're on. Global modifiers affect the character as a whole. Base stats modified by local modifiers will appear blue as opposed to grey when viewing the item. Conditional modifiers are always global.

Local modifiers

• Adds # to # [Physical/Lightning/Cold/Fire/Chaos] Damage This local modifier adds directly to the weapon's base added damage. Global versions of this modifier may state ... to Attacks or ... to Spells, or neither. If neither is stated, it will apply to all spells and attacks.
• #% increased Physical Damage This local modifier directly modifies the weapon's base physical damage. For example, if a weapon's base grants 50-100 Added Physical Damage, and it has the modifiers Adds 25 to 50 Physical Damage and 100% increased Physical Damage, its final base physical damage will be 150 to 300 Physical Damage. If the weapon doesn't have any base physical damage, this modifier will do nothing. Because this modifier directly modifies the weapon's base physical damage, even if all the physical damage is later converted to another damage type, the modifier will still be effective, as it increased the damage that got converted. Global versions of this modifier may specify ... Global Physical Damage, but not always. If they are not found on a martial weapon however, they will still be global.
• #% increased Elemental Damage As of early access, this modifier doesn't actually exist as a local modifier (although it appears globally on a lot of non-martial sources). If it did, it would modify the weapon's base elemental damage like #% increased Physical Damage does the physical. The global version of this modifier is #% increased Elemental Damage with Attacks - note that it specifies "with Attacks" to make it clear that it's global.
• #% increased Attack Speed This modifier directly modifies the weapon's base attack speed. It is multiplicative with global sources of attack speed.
• +#% to Critical Hit Chance This modifier adds directly to the base critical hit chance of the weapon.
• +#% to Critical Damage Bonus This modifier adds to the base critical damage bonus for critical hits with the weapon, which is +100% by default. This new value is multiplicative with global sources of critical damage bonus.

• #% increased Spirit This modifier directly modifies the Spirit's base stat, which grants +100 to Spirit.

• +# to [Armour/Evasion Rating/Energy Shield]
• #% increased [Armour/Evasion Rating/Energy Shield] (and any combination of the three) For energy shield specifically, global versions will specify ... maximum Energy Shield

• #% reduced Attribute Requirements is always local. The global version of this modifier will be phrased Equipment and Skill Gems have #% [increased/reduced] Attribute Requirements.

Quality

Quality is a stat that improves the signature stats of an Equipment or adds additional bonuses to Skill Gems. Each item type has a Currency Item associated with it that increases its Quality.

Mechanics

Quality can be applied to most Equipment (Quivers, Jewels, and Belts are the exceptions), Flasks, Charms, and Skill Gems. Any item with at least 1% quality will state "Superior" in front of the base type when dropped on the ground but not when in your inventory.

Quality is a unique multiplier, applying its effect to the related stat after all other modifiers, including Corruption/Sanctification magnitude modifiers. Once Quality is applied, the values are then truncated.

Amount

All Items that can have Quality applied to it have a default limit of 20% Quality. Certain effects allow Quality to be increased beyond this limit. Quality cannot go below 0%.

When applying Quality to an item using Currency, the Equipment's Item Level will determine how much Quality you get. The higher the Item Level, the less Quality each Currency Item will apply.

Obtaining items with over 20% quality

• Normal items of at least item level 78 can rarely drop as an Exceptional base with Quality over 20% (up to 30%). These items will have the "Exceptional" prefix in front of the base type until it is upgraded/identified.
• Corrupting a Flask, Charm, or Skill Gem may cause it to gain or lose up to 10% Quality, and can exceed the 20% limit, up to 23%.
• Breach RingsBreach RingRequires Level 40+20% to Maximum Quality have an implicit modifier that sets its maximum quality to 40%. The Genesis Tree can add a chance for Breach Rings to instead be a Refined Breach RingRefined Breach RingRequires Level 40+25% to Maximum Quality, which has a maximum quality of 45%.
• Infusers can raise an item's quality over 20%, granting up to +10% additional quality total, which can stack with other sources of maximum quality. This process has a chance to corrupt the item, but won't modify it unpredictably.

Skill gems

All Skill Gems have varying Quality effects, providing bonuses to that skill. Skill Gems cannot drop with Quality, due to the fact that Uncut Gems do not have Quality. Support Gems cannot have Quality added to them.

Effects which grant a global increase to Gem Quality apply independently of the default 20% limit. Quality above 20% continue to add to these bonuses.

The Gemling Legionnaire skill Advanced Thaumaturgy adds an additional quality effect to all skill gems.

Ascendancy skills

Skills granted by Ascendancy class passives cannot have Quality added to them using Currency. Skills granted through items

Adding Quality to items that grant an Inherent Skill as an implicit modifier, also adds Quality to the attached Skill.

• Inherent Skills from Amulets do not inherit the Quality of the Amulet.

Equipment

• Martial Weapons gain more base Physical Damage with Quality. Any Non-Physical Damage on the weapon, whether as Added Damage or as a hidden damage conversion modifier, does not get increased.

• Wands, Staves, and Sceptres do not gain any stats from Quality. Their Inherent Skills receive the Quality instead.

• Armour (equipment) gain more base Defence with Quality.

Charms

Charm Quality increases the Local Duration of the Charm, making the effect last for longer. Charms can naturally drop with Quality, although there is no way to manually add Quality to it at the moment. However their Quality can be modified through Corruption, potentially adding/removing Quality.

Amulets and rings

Catalysts are used to add Quality to Amulets and Rings, up to a maximum of 20%. These currency items vary in effects, and using a different type overrides the previous Quality effect.

Corruption Crafting

Crafting is a mechanic in Path of Exile 2 that involves using currency or certain game mechanics to modify the inherit stats and modifiers of items. Almost all items can be "crafted" to change and enhance the item- the current exceptions being corrupted and mirrored items, which because of their status as "corrupted" or "mirrored" cannot have normal crafting currencies or processes done upon them (Note: it is still possible to add runes and soul cores to their rune sockets).

Mechanics

The process of crafting is the addition or augmentation of modifiers (or the rerolling of the value of those modifiers- see § Randomising numerical values) onto an item through various chance-based or deterministic steps. Certain currencies and crafting items can alter the odds for a specific outcome to occur.

Upgrading rarity

"Upgrading" refers to changing an item's rarity.

Augmenting and removing modifiers

"Augmenting" refers to adding an explicit modifier to an item without changing its rarity. Magic items (this includes almost all flasks, charms, and relics) have a default modifier limit of 2 (1 prefix and 1 suffix) , while almost all rare items have a default modifier limit of 6 (3 prefixes and 3 suffixes)- the exception being rare jewels, which have a limit of 4 (2 prefixes and 2 suffixes).

Randomising numerical values

Certain currencies can adjust the numerical values of stats found on items within a designated range without reforging or changing their current modifiers.

Modifying quality

Quality affects certain inherent stats of an item. The amount of quality gained on using quality currency depends on the item level of the item or if the item is unique.

Modifying sockets

Skill gems can have up to 5 sockets for support gems or other skill gems in the case of meta gems.

Weapon and armour items have sockets which can be modified to socket runes or soul cores. Certain jewellery base types may also have a socket.

Enchantments

Certain currencies can add an enchantment to an item which are separate from implicit or explicit modifiers.

Crafting benches are interactable objects that provide a variety of different crafting options, and may offer exclusive effects or a greater degree of control with crafting.

• Reforging Bench - destroys three items of the same base type, providing a similar item back. Can be used to upgrade or randomize certain items like Distilled Emotions (+1 tier), waystones (+1 tier), Essences (random), or Catalysts (random).

Omens

Omens are a type of currency items. Activating an omen will guarantee a specified outcome when its condition is met, such as a guaranteed crafting outcome or an effect on the player character. Once triggered, the omen is consumed. Most omens are obtained from Ritual encounters, but some omens come from other content.

To use an omen, right-click to activate it. While it remains in the player's inventory, the activated omen will be consumed when the relevant condition is met. It is possible to have multiple related omens active at a time (e.g., an Omen of Sinistral Annulment and an Omen of Greater Annulment can be used together to remove two prefix modifiers). However, activating an omen while another, non-related omen is active may deactivate the old one.

Only one non-crafting omen can be used per area instance. Crafting omens can be used multiple times per instance, and different omen effects can be stacked, though they will typically prevent the craft if one or more omens are invalid combinations.
