Regular currency
At higher levels, currency with Greater and Perfect tiers use an equity system such that players will find fewer lower tier currency as a percentage of lower tier currency will instead accumulate towards the drop of a higher tier currency. Between item levels 78-80, and even further between 81-82, this percentage increases significantly.

Shards of currency items are obtained primarily by disenchanting items with rarity or item sockets. These can be combined to form complete currency items by stacking them. Certain types of shards can also drop naturally like basic currency.

Essences
Essences are a type of currency item used for crafting equipment, upgrading the item's rarity and adding a guaranteed modifier or removing a random modifier on a Rare item and add a crafted modifier.
Catalysts
Catalysts are a type of currency item that add quality to jewellery and jewels, increasing the magnitude of certain categories of modifiers. They are acquired from the Genesis Tree, which used components from Breach encounters.
Liquid emotions
Liquid emotions are a type of currency item that can be used on jewels to remove a random modifier to add a crafted modifier. In The Withered Hollow, there is a crafting bench that allows you to use three liquid emotions to instill an amulet or a Raven-Touched item and add an enchantment that allocates a notable passive skill while it's equipped. They can drop from Delirium encounters.
Preserved bones
Preserved bones are a type of currency item used for crafting equipment, jewels, and waystones, adding a desecrated modifier. They can drop from Abyss encounters.
Atziri's Temple currency
These currencies are exclusively found in Atziri's Temple, whether as itemised versions of various crafting benches found in specific rooms, or as a reward for defeating Atziri, the Red Queen.

Monsters from Verisium Remnants have a chance to drop currencies used for Runeforging, which adds Runic Ward to a piece of armour or upgrade the item bases of unique equipment. Certain ores can be Runeforged to create a specific unique item.

Alloys
Alloys are a type of crafting currency obtainable from Verisium Remnants. They function identically to Perfect Essences and are compatible with omens specific to Perfect Essences.
Fluxes
Fluxes can be created by forming specific runeshape combinations on a Verisium Remnant. Four of these fluxes can be used on an item to convert all resistance modifiers to a specific type. Crafting
Crafting is a mechanic in Path of Exile 2 that involves using currency or certain game mechanics to modify the inherit stats and modifiers of items. Almost all items can be "crafted" to change and enhance the item- the current exceptions being corrupted and mirrored items, which because of their status as "corrupted" or "mirrored" cannot have normal crafting currencies or processes done upon them (Note: it is still possible to add runes and soul cores to their rune sockets).
Mechanics
The process of crafting is the addition or augmentation of modifiers (or the rerolling of the value of those modifiers- see § Randomising numerical values) onto an item through various chance-based or deterministic steps. Certain currencies and crafting items can alter the odds for a specific outcome to occur.
Upgrading rarity
"Upgrading" refers to changing an item's rarity.

Augmenting and removing modifiers
"Augmenting" refers to adding an explicit modifier to an item without changing its rarity. Magic items (this includes almost all flasks, charms, and relics) have a default modifier limit of 2 (1 prefix and 1 suffix) , while almost all rare items have a default modifier limit of 6 (3 prefixes and 3 suffixes)- the exception being rare jewels, which have a limit of 4 (2 prefixes and 2 suffixes).

Modifying quality

Modifying sockets
Skill gems can have up to 5 sockets for support gems or other skill gems in the case of meta gems.
Weapon and armour items have sockets which can be modified to socket runes or soul cores. Certain jewellery base types may also have a socket.
